Cut Road Walking Pictures part 1
Well I went for my walk Thursday night. Allmost 3 kilometers. Decided to take some pictures. Will go again Saturday I hope. The things you see when you are walking instead of driving is amazing......Starting point for walk, this is a picture of one of the old British Military Barracks, built in the 1800's I think. My Daughters Dojo is located on the ground floor
Same buidings as above except they are being converted into a new seniors "rest" home.
It's last life was the St. George's Secondary School.
St. George's Harbour, I still think it is one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. First cruise ships of the season due in soon.
Nobody home! This house is completly wreaked, and what a pity with a housing crisis on. But we have lots of homes here in Bermuda that look just like this one.....
Town Cut Channel St George's. Very Narrow for the big ships to navigate. Will try to get some pictures of the cruise ships this season.
Gates Fort, located next to the Town Cut, It was constructed between 1612 and 1615 and takes its name from Sir Thomas Gates, Governor elect of Jamestown, Virginia.
Alexandria Battery, located just around the courner from Gates Fort. Built near the turn of the 1900's this fort saw "action" in WWI and WWII.
Buildings Bay, gets its name from the building of the Deliverance and the Patience. These two boats were constucted after the shipwreak in 1609 of the Sea Venture. The flagship of Admiral Sir George Somers. Destined for the new colony Jamestown in Virginia the fact that the survivors built two smaller boats and made it to Virginia was no small feat.
Also lots of washed up glass, with the sharp edges worn away leads to it's nickname "Glass Beach"
Bermuda Moongate. Legend has it that people who walk through a Moongate, especially young lovers and honeymooners, are blessed with good luck. The original idea was copied from and brought to Bermuda back in the mid 1800's around 1861 or so.
Ours are constucted from Bermuda stone, and have a different shape from the Chinese.
